Marimba bar modal behaviour
About this project
A marimba bar's modal behaviour is governed by the shape of its undercut. The aim of this project is to show how the shape affects the modes of vibration. The project nevertheless starts with clamped-free bars in order to show fundamental results about modal analysis. Various effects are shown: - Size effect of the mesh (convergence study) - Geometry effect (length, thickness and width) - Material effect (E/density effect) Free-Free simulation are run with a wood bar with and without the arch. The presence of the arch helps push back the second transverse (out-of-plane) bending mode to nearly 4 times the fundamental frequency (this is not exactly the case in this simulation because the geometry of the arch is quite arbitrary). Improvements are underway.
